MWD² is an interdisciplinary program that attracts faculty from backgrounds ranging from computer science to marketing. This gives students the ability to learn about technology from different perspectives and it provides them with a unique set of resources with which to develop their specialization areas.


Dean RJ McGivney

Associate Dean and faculty member of the University Studies Program. He has been the evaluator for the Multimedia Web Design and Development program since its inception. In the role of evaluator his primary responsibility is to ensure that all Multimedia Web Design and Development students are making satisfactory academic progress.


Professor John Gray
John Gray gray@mwd.hartford.edu

An active professor of Computer Science and Multimedia Web Design and Development and the Chair of MWD². His interests lie in the UNIX operating system, system-level programming, network administration, and human / computer interaction. Professor Gray regularly teaches CS175 Introduction to Internet Programming and on occasion, CS 111 Programming Foundations (Visual Basic). Both courses are part of the MWD² major.


Dr. Sundeep Muppidi

Associate Professor of Communication and Multimedia Web Design & Development. His teaching and research interests are in media studies, new communication technologies, video, and multimedia production. Dr. Muppidi is an alumnus of the Management Development Program at Harvard University. In addition to courses that Dr. Muppidi teaches for the School of Communication, he teaches MWD 110 Multimedia Web Design & Development I and upper level elective courses in digital video and multimedia. Dr. Muppidi is also an independent film maker and a visiting professor and external examiner at various universities in the West Indies, Singapore, China, and India.


Dr. Jerry Katrichis
Dr. Jerry Katrichis katrichis@hartford.edu

Associate Professor of Marketing and Multimedia Web Design and Development. His research interests encompass business-to-business marketing, customer satisfaction, and teaching methods. In 2002 he received the Award for Innovative Excellence in Marketing Education from the American Marketing Association. Professor Katrichis teaches the AUCS 120 course, which introduces MWD² majors to the world of business.


Dr. William Sanders
Dr. Bill Sanders wsanders@hartford.edu
A professor of Sociology and Multimedia Web Design & Development. He focuses on the interactive aspects of the Web and Internet with an emphasis on information construction and communication. His interests stem from a background in sociology and applying situational and interactive concepts to the area of computer-mediated social behavior. He teaches the freshman introductory course in technology (AUCT 150), the Flash course (MWD 210), a course in PHP, ASP.NET, C# and SQL (MWD 310) and the capstone course in streaming video (MWD 410). Dr. Sanders is the author of many books on multimedia and computer software.


Donald Ballman, Esquire

Professor Ballman is an attorney whose practice focuses on technology and e-commerce law. His interests and teaching areas also include analysis and design of human-computer interaction, with an emphasis on the economical development of user interface designs for the Internet and other software. His interests stem from his background in the management of usability programs for large scale information systems such as Lexis-Nexis and the wide variety of clients he has advised in his legal practice, which range in size from technology start-ups to Fortune 100 organizations. Professor Ballman has written a number of articles on technology law and usability, is the founding editor of Common Ground, the national publication of the Usability Professional's Association and is a frequent guest lecturer on technology issues in the University of Hartford and the University of Connecticut graduate business programs. Professor Ballman teaches special-topic MWD² courses in the areas of Law and Technology and Human-Computer Interaction.


Dr. Stephen Misovich

Dr. Misovich is an Associate Professor of Psychology. His research interests include online persuasion and how online life affects close relationships. His teaching interests include the development of online educational materials, and he was a recipient of the American Psychological Association's Office of Teaching Resources' Instructional Resource Award for development of online educational materials. In addition to undergraduate and graduate courses in Psychology, Dr. Misovich has taught MWD110 and AUCT150.
